Fashion and costume speak the same language, but tell different stories. My work lives between the two—where craft, character, and imagination come together.

Patric Yikun Wang is a costume designer, fashion designer, artist, and costume artisan from Jilin, China, based in San Francisco. He holds both a BFA and MFA in Costume Design from the Academy of Art University. Working across theatre, film, fashion, and commercial production, Wang combines conceptual design with a broad technical practice spanning costume and fashion construction, patternmaking, corsetry, millinery, wig styling, weaving, textile manipulation, and handcraft.

His professional experience bridges costume design, fashion, and specialized fabrication. Wang has led costume teams for theatrical and screen productions, designed for award-winning short films, and currently works as a costume artisan at Madeline Berger Design Studio on specialty costume projects for commercial and entertainment clients. His millinery work has also appeared in high-profile IVY PARK x adidas campaigns, with custom pieces worn by Beyoncé and Naomi Watanabe.

Wang’s creative practice explores queerness, transformation, identity, and the relationship between body and material. Drawing from his experience growing up queer in a conservative environment, he approaches dress as both a storytelling medium and a form of personal expression. His fashion collections Screaming Queens and Reframing Men combine traditional craftsmanship with experimental materials and visible construction to investigate how clothing can shape, reveal, and transform identity.

With experience spanning design, construction, collaborative leadership, and professional production, Wang brings an interdisciplinary perspective to costume and fashion. He is particularly interested in sharing the relationship between creative experimentation and technical craft, encouraging the next generation of designers to develop strong making skills, curiosity, and an individual creative voice while gaining insight into the collaborative realities of professional design practice.
